Radiohead Announce North American Tour Stops

I’m without my macbook due to my own stupidity of leaving my charger at home by accident so it’s mp3-less blogging until later tonight. Until then I figured I would make sure you all knew that Radiohead announced which cities they would be playing in North America. No venues, dates, or even a season in which the tour will take place has been announced but the cities are below. Looks like I’ll be taking a trip to ATL or STL. Anyone have a place to stay?

Okkervil River + Damien Jurado Tour Dates

On what may be the best tour I have heard of yet this fall, Secretly Canadian/Jagjaguwar alums Damien Jurado and Okkervil River will trek across the better part of the United States (and a bit of Canada) to unify folk-loving hipsters in their slowly breaking hearts (if they’re not already, they certainly will be after Jurado’s set in particular).

Both bands will also stop at the Pygmalion Music Fest in Champaign, IL in September, which I am trying my darndest to be at. The lineup also features Andrew Bird, Headlights, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, Owen, Margot & The Nuclear So and So’s, Shapes and Sizes, and many, many more.

Damien Jurado is currently in the studio with long-time comrades Jenna Conrad (cello, guitar, and vocals) and Eric Fisher (just about everything) recording the follow up to 2006’s wonderful And Now That I’m in Your Shadow. Okkervil River will release their new LP, The Stage Names, on August 7th in three formats. More info can be found here.

New Over the Rhine + Tour

One of the most criminally underrated bands on the planet, Over the Rhine, have announced an extensive fall tour and released a single that is rapidly burning up my most played list in iTunes. The song, Entertaining Thoughts, is a wonderful polished bit of folk-rock that is neither too folky to be polarizing nor too pop-produced to be unappealing. It will undoubtedly make an awesome addition to any summer mix: it’s especially good for a drive.

It’s sort of like a Wallflowers track only it doesn’t suck (Hey-oh!). I could listen to Karen sing all day.

John Vanderslice Announces Tour Dates

If you haven’t seen a John Vanderslice show, you probably aren’t a very happy person. They’re big events, held in tiny places, moved to parking lots, on top of cars, and anywhere else John can lead a crowd.

The good news is this can change for you this fall! JV is embarking on a pretty massive tour of North America this upcoming autumn. If you don’t believe me when I tell you that you need to attend, check out this excerpt from a DCist review of his D.C. show last year

Via: DCist
The man with the coolest name in contemporary rock music drew the largest crowd we’ve ever seen at the Rock and Roll Hotel last night. Keep in mind that it was a Wednesday. John Vanderslice also completely demolished the “fourth wall” between the audience and the stage, handing out Mrs. Field’s cookies, inviting a gaggle of fans to the stage for a sing-along of “Me and My 424,” and descending from the stage to play his final song surrounded by the audience, almost a cappella and with the lights turned low, spooky-séance-style. Did we mention that he corralled opener St. Vincent and the R’n’R’s sound guy, Dan, up to the stage for a few numbers? Witnessing this collaborative approach confirmed what DCist Kyle learned last year: John Vanderslice really is the nicest guy in indie rock.

Wolf Parade Announces Tour Dates (Frog Eyes+Handome Fours also touring)

Those canucks love to keep their eggs in several baskets apparently. Imagine Wolf Parade being like your parents house. Everyone moves out at some point but it’s not like they’re never coming back or anything. They’ll be back when they need money, or miss being at home, or run out of ideas for side projects (Okay so that one doesn’t work so much). Anyways, Frog Eyes are touring and Wolf Parade just announced their very imited summer tour dates and as if that isn’t enough Handsome furs will be opening some dates for the Arcade fire. Make sure you check any and all of them out if they come through.

[mp3] Frog Eyes – Sound Travels
[mp3] Wolf Parade – I’ll Believe in Anything
[mp3] Handsome Furs – What We Had

For those who have trouble keeping up, Frog Eyes resident wolf parader is Spencer Krug, Handsome Furs‘ is Dan Boeckner, and then there’s also Krug’s Sunset Rubdown and then there is also guitarist and eh-Hot Hot Heat member Dante Dicaro’s project Johnny and The Moon, whose album was released last fall in Canada and is being released in the US soon. Details on that as they come.

PLEASE NOTE: I have added a paypal donate button to the top right corner of the site if anyone feels like kicking in a few bucks for helping me pay for the bandwidth it takes to host mp3’s and the site (I’m moving off blogspot’s server this month). A very small amount of you have emailed me asking me about donating so here ya go. It gets tough when you’re broke and don’t want 24 ads for t-shirts, cartoons, and bands you don’t like cluttering your site. You are too kind.
XOXO

New Bright Eyes Tour dates

I’m almost sick of telling you about him, but this news excites me.
Oberst, Walcott, Mogis and I would imagine a few of their friends are heading out for a bigger tour than the previous announced four winds tour in honor of their newest LP Casadaga. I’ll see you at the Nashville show! Does anyone else find it a bit ironic that everyone’s favorite former pre-pubescent screamer and anti-corporate spokesboy is playing places like the Walt Disney Theater and Hard Rock Live?

David Bazan + Will Johnson Tour Dates

David Bazan (Pedro the Lion, Headphones, David Bazan) and Will Johnson (Centro-Matic, South San Gabriel, Will Johnson) will be headed out for a short string of solo dates, mostly across the midwest. I can say from experience that neither one of these fine songwriters should be missed.
Both of these fellows can sing, like really sing, not like that cool Indie rock off kilter moan/sing, more like the room filling vocals and haunting falsettos you’ll want to listen to over and over over and over. Check out the Live Undertow Orchestra mp3’s beneath for proof.
